Pennthorpe School's MUGA Success

Transforming Pennthorpe School’s Sports Facilities: A Multi-Use Games Area Success Story

At Academy Sports, we pride ourselves on delivering state-of-the-art sports facilities for schools and organisations across the south-east. One of our recent projects at Pennthorpe School in Surrey has been a resounding success, transforming their old macadam courts into a stunning synthetic grass multi-use games area (MUGA). In this blog post, we take you through the project’s various stages and the fantastic outcome for the school.

From Old Macadam Courts to a Modern MUGA

The project kicked off with beautiful weather, allowing our team to start the conversion and extension process smoothly. Throughout the project, we shared updates on our Instagram account, showcasing the various stages of construction and the team’s dedication to delivering a top-quality MUGA.

Excavations and Synthetic Grass Cricket Wicket Installation

Despite the dry weather (which has its own attendant problems), our team made good progress on the MUGA excavations, ensuring the project remained on schedule. The synthetic grass cricket wicket was installed, providing a much-needed upgrade to the cricket square.

Laying the High-Tensile Geogrid Soil-Stabilising Membrane

As temperatures rose, our team laid the high-tensile Geogrid soil-stabilising membrane, a crucial step in preparing the foundation for the MUGA. This membrane ensures the pitch remains stable and durable for years to come.

Main MUGA Construction and Macadam Courses

With the cooler weather providing some relief, our team began the main MUGA construction works. With the sun returning, the macadam courses were laid, and progress was made on the retaining walls and surround fencing system. The new macadam receiving course was completed, and the fencing and walls were nearly finished, setting the stage for the synthetic grass surface installation.

Arrival of the Synthetic Grass Multi-Sport Surface

As the fencing and basic landscaping reached completion, the synthetic grass multi-sport surface arrived on site, signalling the final phase of the project. Our team diligently installed the surface, ensuring each line for the various sports was meticulously placed.

Unveiling the New Sports Pitch

The grand opening of the MUGA at Pennthorpe School was a tremendous success, revealing a state-of-the-art sports pitch ready to be enjoyed by the school’s budding athletes. The new facility has already made a significant impact, hosting a variety of sports and contributing to the development of the county’s future sports stars.
